We're rebranding Black Friday to Transparent Friday

What you don't know about Black Friday discounting

We’re saying no to Black Friday. Black Friday is a marketing phenomenon taken from US tradition in which the day after Thanksgiving is regarded as the start of US shopping season.

UK retailers began to adopt Black Friday to increase profit by artificially increasing prices to more than the normal price and then highly discounting to hype demand for ‘bargains’. – The re-directory.

Black Friday promoted products are often manufactured using the cheapest materials, trims and construction techniques that can pass basic quality standards. By brands doing this, products are not fit for purpose or longevity. Equally, by using cheaper materials, their environmental impact is much higher and by producing at the lowest possible cost, this exploits workers rights through low wages.

The cost you pay is inflated and the environmental & human impact is ignored. Over 93% of garment workers worldwide are paid poverty wages. Even here in the UK, thousands of garment workers are paid £3 per hour to work in unsafe conditions and turn around clothing within a matter of days for the largest fast fashion companies.

Let's be more Transparent this Friday!

We will not be participating in Black Friday as we believe that this devalues the hard work that is put into each garment manufactured. It takes us on average 9 months to develop our sustainable swimsuits from sketch to final production, we describe our approach as ‘slow fashion’.

Have you ever wondered why 'sustainable' and fair fashion costs more? it's because doing things properly costs money! If a product is too cheap, it is because somebody somewhere in the company's supply chain is paying the price for it. For the first time we are proud to reveal the cost to make one of our sustainable swimsuits!

Closing the loop

Each swimsuit is made using ECONYL®, a 100% regenerated polyamide fibre made from post- consumer waste from the land and sea including discarded fishing nets. This fibre is then blended with LYCRA® XTRA LIFETM giving the final fabric a luxurious sculpting fit.

Nylon waste, otherwise polluting the Earth, is transformed into ECONYL® regenerated nylon. It’s exactly the same as brand new nylon and can be recycled, recreated and remoulded again and again. That means you can create new products and buy new products without having to use new resources.

Every 10,000 tonnes of Econyl raw material saves 70,000 barrels of crude oil and avoids 57,100 tonnes of CO2 eq. emissions.

As well as being a solution on waste, ECONYL® regenerated nylon is also better when it comes to climate change. It reduces the global warming impact of nylon by up to 80% compared with the material from oil.

Team Pursuit

Behind Pursuit is a fully female team of passionate individuals. Co-founders Annabel & Hannah design each piece in house which is then developed by our wonderfully talented freelance garment technologists Deborah Doyle & Beverley Baglow. Once we have nailed the perfect fit, our product development phase is complete. Yasemin, our production manager takes over and manages the manufacturing of each piece within our factory in Enfield, London. The final pieces are shot for our campaign imagery/video by Bianca Sardi and then they are ready to go live!
